  Dunedin

After Pearl Harbor the island
was recommissioned as an
R&R site for exhausted
workers from the war
effort.

Today, visitors may enjoy
the pristine beaches or hike
through one of the few
remaining slash pine
stands(right) with trees
that provide important
nesting sites for Ospreys.

Cafe and Ferry to Caldesi
Island.( another barrier
island to the south which
 was once part of Honey-
moon island before
a 19th century
hurricane.)

Honeymoon
Island

First visited by Tobagan Indians,
this scenic, uninhabited state
park was named Sand Island
in the 1830's and a hog farm
reclaimed it as Hog Island
by 1880. The present name
was forged through 1940's
newsreels and Life Magazine
ads for newly-weds lucky
enough to win a two week
Florida getaway in one
of the 50 palm-thatched
bungalows  located "amid
sub-tropical balmy breezes".
