Micanopy

As tourism grew Philip Savino and
his daughter Alexandra saw an
unfilled niche: the town no longer
had a restaurant. They began
serving a limited menu of old
family recipes.

The most popular

dish, black beans and rice has
been available every day since
the cafe' opened in 1996. The
Cuban and Rueben sandwiches
are also in demand. There's a
selection of deli sandwiches
served on thick-sliced bakery
bread. For dessert try their
famous Key Lime Pie or the
McIntosh Wild Orange Pie, made
from hand-picked wild oranges.

Have a delightful dining
 experience
at the Old Florida
Cafe
in Micanopy," The little
town that time
forgot".

Spend the night at the
Herlong Mansion B & B.

"Y'all come set spell" on the porch.
The view is about the same as it
was 100 years ago, when this tiny
town bustled with farm wagons
loading citrus and produce at the
train depot. By passed by progress
Micanopy began to revive in the
1970's as an antiques mecca.

The open-air porch, (left) is
the perfect place to sit in the
shadeamong hanging
 baskets of flowers.

If the weather turns foul you can
lunch indoors at a glass-covered table
filled with ancient local matchbook
covers, postcards, and other Florida
memorabilia. Not hungry? Then just
browse the gift shop, filled with
antiques collectibles, and gifts.
